We send notes and newsletters as well as the children’s artwork, school work and projects home to share with you. It is important that each child have a large backpack or tote that will easily hold a 9×12 folder. Be sure the backpack and other belongings are marked with your child’s name. It is only if they are marked that “lost” items can be returned. All school notices, including a newsletter from the principal about important school events, are sent home on “Backpack Thursdays”. Be sure to check your child’s backpack regularly for all information.

Every day there will be snack time. You will learn more about this from your child’s teacher. We do encourage your child to bring good food choices that are healthy for snack and lunch. We will notify you if there are any restrictions based on food allergies in the class.

If your child will not be attending school on a particular day, please be sure to call in to our absentee line at 978-897-0310. We will call you if we do not hear from you and your child is not in school. Again, this is to ensure all children arrive at school safely. The absentee line is available 24 hours a day.

We celebrate these special occasions in the classroom. Teachers celebrate in varied ways. We do not encourage food to celebrate birthdays. When we do have holiday celebrations we focus on healthy foods.

Every child will have the following specials: Art, Library, Physical Education and Music. Your child’s teacher will provide you with a schedule of these specials. Remember that art is fun and messy. Children should wear appropriate clothes. Sneakers must be worn in the gym.

Please send a note if there is any change in your child’s routine of coming or going home from school. If your child is not going to ride the bus, you MUST send a note to the teacher. Except in an emergency situation, please do not call the school to request changes over the telephone. We are sure you understand this is to ensure all children are safe and accounted for at all times. Children who ride the bus are not allowed to switch to another bus to visit a friend. Students who are not bus riders are not allowed occasional rides on the bus to visit a friend.

The PTO has new “Change in Dismissal” notepads available! They are $3 each, or 2 for $5 and directly support the PTO. If you are interested in purchasing some, please contact president@gmpto.org.

Your child should dress for comfort. We paint, play outside and sometimes get a bit messy. If boots are necessary, make sure to send sneakers in the backpack. Remember – please label everything! We go out to recess each day unless it is bitterly cold or heavy precipitation so they should dress accordingly.

Please do not allow your child to bring any toys to school, as it is distracting and temptation to others.

Your child will have a name tag to wear the first few weeks of school to help teachers, bus drivers and other staff members learn the students’ names. Please make sure your child comes to school with their name tag each day until the teacher tells you it is no longer necessary.
